Shortfilm, helicopter explosion VFX
shortfilm, HVFX - fluids and Shatter effects
So this week has been mainly about understanding fluids and shatter effects. We have also been working a bit more on the various radar scenes, trying to make them a bit more interesting. Working on the fluid effects took up most of our time and progress was slow due to rendering time. We starteded looking into shatter effects to give the helicopter explosion some more deapth and to make the scenes more interesting to the viewer.
We had to make a new basic run cycle for the radar sequence, as well as a basic animation of the car getting blown up. Combining maya fluids with SW particles gave the explosion a bit more deapth and force.
We decided to go with a cloth shatter effect on the helicopter with SW particles bound to the shatter via goals and then later adding on particles emitted as children of the main particle system. Hopefully this will give a glow effect on the metall debree as if it is melting in the air.
Video Edited scenes of this week

- Hey nice work! Everything seems to come together! A couple of things I was thinking about:
- Check the black values on the body double, it's a little darker than the original.
- In the last shot, the smoke trail from the explosion might look more realistic with less gravity as smoke doesn't "fall" that fast.
Just my two cents! Keep up the good work! :)
