FINAL RESULT!

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

Until this wednesday I was re-rendering all the layers and including the occlusion pass. I also made a little breakdown.
So this is how it all looked like in the end!
I have also added the last documents in Milestone 3. So that’s all from me. Thanks for following the process and reading this blog.
Have a nice day / Evelina

Deadline!

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

It’s deadline now, and a short clip is done!
I’m really not satisfied yet, because I feel that I need to render another pass, adjust some things, spend some more time in post production, and maybe give the clip some sounds.
Right now I think I’m too tired to be satisfied with it…
But here’s the video!

Second version of animation

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

This is how the animation looks like right now. It has abit more movements. Maybe I have to improve some things still…
I have problems to make the skin weighting look good.

The first rendered video with animation!

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

I have worked on the animation during this weekend. This is a video of the first version - from yesterday . I have already adjusted some things, and started a new rendering of the updated animation. I will post it tomorrow.
A little problem: I want the skin on the throat to move when the neck moves, kind of like jiggeling. I have some joints there for it, and I heard about a MEL script that could solve my problems - I can’t find the tutorial about it though!
Feel free to post feed back! /Eve

The tortoise is done soon…

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

I changed the displacment map a bit. It got better in one way, but I have worked too much with this tortoise and I can’t get satisfied.
I have fixed the texture more. It took longer time than planned of course - I expected that. But the texture should be considered as done now.
I did a simple rig so I can do just some small movements. I had alot of problems with it, but in the end I succeeded to be done with the rigging and skin weighting etc.
Right now I have started with the animation. I’m not so good at it, that’s why I wont make it move so much.
It’s not so much left now… We will see how this looks like in the end. /Eve

Texturing - Weekly Progress

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

This week has been about mostly texturing and rigging. I’m still abit behind in my schedule, but it will work out in the end.
I’m not satisfied with the texture yet, it needs to be worked on abit more.

Done with modeling and sculpturing!

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

Now I’m finally done with the modeling! I’m of course not 100% satisfied yet, but you never get satisfied anyway, I should just stop working on it now before it gets over-worked-on.
Maybe I have to change somethings in the future, but I will continue with the next steps now. I’ll post pics of the result with the displacement map shortly.
I should have been finished with the textures now this friday. - I’m a little bit behind in the schedule, but it’s ok I will start with it now and it will be finished pretty soon!
Feel free to comment. /Eve

Preview with model

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

Here is a test tracking with the preview clip. I’m not satisfied at all. I cant make the tracking look good, the model moves around still. I will fix it better soon.
I will also probably change the film abit. Me and my teachers agreed with a different idea of live action, so I will re-shoot everything.

More progress of this week

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

More things I have done this week are:
- Trying the displacement map (with the high ploygon mesh I have done so far) which I have alot of problems with still as you see. Hopefully it will look better after next week when I count on being done with the model.
- Some shots has been taken of the location I had in mind. It was difficult to follow my storyboard and the eqiupment I had with me was not the best.
- Today I tried to do tracking and match moving with my film, I had some problems with that too. It took too much time for me to learn everything!
- I tried to work with my preview clip (previz), but its not going well at all. Maybe I will try tomorrow to cut it together, now I know at least how to do all these things…
- I have done a presentation and a document about my - not so very successful - process so far in this project. You can find them under Milestone 2.

I will try to post my previz soon. We will see what happens…

Progress…

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

This week, so far, I have sketched the storyboard and sculptured. Im not done with the model yet of course, I’ll keep work on it for another week.
Before the end of this week i will shoot the film and try to make it work with the model, and see what happens.
To be continued…

This week

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

Yesterday I posted the pictures of the base mesh I worked on this week. This day I just adjusted some things I’ve missed and build a very simple rig. (I post the pictures of the rig when I’ve improved it abit.)
I thought of that maybe, if I animate this thing the skin has to jiggle (and those things)  so today I just read some things about muscle building in Maya.
I feel that I really should focus on the sculpturing, the animation can’t take over, but hopefully I can find an easy way to make the animation look good without it’s taking too much time.
Well that’s all from now on…

Finding locations

in Creature Modeling for Film Production

I’m trying to find the right location for the film clip.
So far this is the place I’m thinking of. The tortoise is supposed to stand there in the little jungle, in the middle of a hall. It’s a lost and misplaced turtle…
What do you think?
