Preview of the horse animation
in Beyond the FrameWe kinda forgot about this whole blogging thing this week, that is until now. I haven’t had much to show for my work lately since it’s consisted mainly of rigging and skinning that don’t make for very fascinating visual presentations. But now I have rendered a short animation preview of napoleon, featuring the textures Johanna made for the horse. It’s not quite finalized and the nCloth is a little preliminary but none the less, here it is

Some more progress
in Beyond the Frame
The horses main texture is finished. Things left on him to texture is the saddle, harness and the mane, which will be quite tricky to get right. You can see my first test on the mane in the picture above.
The scene is also shaping up quite nicely. Trying out different techniques with moving clouds, and it seems that you have most control over it when its single planars with a cloud-texture on them. And it gives a good depths-effect.
I really do hope that I can get enough time on my hands to get the textures just right. At least with the mountains and background. Time is running low and the deadline feels as if it’s just around the corner.

Rigging and Texturing
in Beyond the FrameI don’t have much visual stimulus to provide to account for our progress this week but everything is more or less proceeding as planned. I have rigged and skinned all the characters and complimented with some minor modeling details that were missing, such as the saddle and napoleons sash. Johanna has initiated the texturing process and has made significant progress mostly with the horse and the scenery. A sneak preview of the textures would have been nice to addition to this post, but sadly I do not have access to them at the moment, so I guess we’ll rectify that visual output deficiency later when proper access has been attained.

Modeling progress
in Beyond the Frame
I’m trying my skills in Mudbox this week and has started with the high-polymesh of Napoleons horse. It’s my first time trying this program. Luckily, Mudbox is very similiar to maya, very easy to handle and has showed to be much fun!
Next up is to testbake out a displacement map and see how things work out. Hopefully it won’t be any problems.

Previs
in Beyond the FrameThe long awaited previs has finally arrived. It’s a little longer than we had first intended, in fact it has doubled in lenght. This is largely due to the fact that we have included a scene we’re a subjective camera aproaches the painting. Anywho… Here it is

Progress report
in Beyond the FrameI’ve almost finished the lighting and it’s starting to look pretty good. Napoleons horse in uv-mapped and ready for some detail modeling. The world is also uv-mapped and has a base texture.
Jonas is cleaning up the meshes and adapting them for some detail modeling in mudbox.

Animation Test
in Beyond the FrameI’ve tried making a quick rig and animating the horse a little bit, partially to see how well it deforms and also to see how it works with nCloth. The nCloth didn’t work quite as well as one might have hoped, the constraints are doing some things I don’t want them to do but I haven’t tried it all too exessively. anywho… here’s the film

We will also throw up a previz soon.

Progress
in Beyond the Frame
The first week has ended and we have done some research and started with the mockup. Our project plan is also up.
The scene is starting to come together and soon we will have a turnaround previsual.
